Dream - PT Pos Indonesia will terminate the employment relationship (PHK) with its employees. This decision follows plans to develop digital services.
Chief Executive Officer of PT Pos Indonesia, Faizal Rochmad Djoemadi, revealed a list of positions that will be affected by layoffs. He mentioned that the first position to be affected by layoffs is the manual sorting officer, which will be replaced by a robot.
"Yes, earlier. Especially the robotics earlier for sorting. Yes, the position of people who usually do sorting,""
"Faizal said, quoted from Liputan6.com, Thursday, June 13, 2024."
"He assesses that the use of this technology is important to improve the quality of services towards Pos Indonesia consumers. For example, anticipating damage to package shipments caused by human errors."
"So opening the bag, then taking out the items, then reading, beep, oh this is a delivery to Surabaya, Surabaya bag, like that. That can be a result of mis-sorting or because of carelessness in throwing things around, damaged goods, defects, and so on. Yes, we have to stop with the robot."
"bebernya."
Faizal then explained that employee efficiency is important to reduce fixed costs that burden the company's finances. In addition, technology development is also important to maintain the business continuity of the state-owned enterprise in the future. "With robots, it is more efficient. The robot doesn't get tired working 24 hours. There is no sorting mistake due to human error," he said.
As for other affected employees, they include ticket booth attendants, couriers, and pick-up officers who will be replaced with a partnership system. According to Faizal, this system has been commonly used by competing logistics companies.
"For employees who guard the counter, who deliver, who pick up, who want it, we will replace them with partnership,"
"bebernya" in English is "some of it."
Faizal explained that employee efficiency will be implemented gradually for certain positions. Later, employees affected by layoffs will be offered an early retirement program. "Maybe yes, unfortunately, we will offer early retirement to employees affected by automation and digitization. (Layoffs) not massive, it will be gradual like that," he emphasized.
"Previously, PT Pos Indonesia targeted a net profit of around Rp300 billion in 2024. However, this figure has dropped drastically compared to the net profit of Rp650 billion in 2022. The decrease in profit is due to Pos Indonesia requiring a large budget for investment in the IT and robotics sectors. This investment is in line with the company's efforts to undergo technological transformation. 'The profit (in 2023) is actually expected to be more than Rp300 billion, but it has significantly decreased,' said Faizal."
