Dress Songket by Hengki Kawilarang Will Be Exhibited at NYFW 2023

Dream - The prestigious New York Fashion Week (NYFW) will begin. Several designers and fashion brands from Indonesia also participate in showcasing their works at the event.

One of the designers who has the opportunity to showcase his work at NYFW 2023 is Hengki Kawilarang. He has prepared a collection titled Sriwijaya, which heavily features Indonesian traditional clothing designs.

In line with the theme, the collection is inspired by the Sriwijaya Kingdom, which flourished in 683 AD. The kingdom left behind cultural heritage in the form of woven songket fabrics and Palembang silk jumputan, which are featured in the Autumn/Winter 2023 collection.

The collection is also enhanced with feather details, sequins, and embroidery. "I added a glamorous touch that is characteristic and a combination of sunset sky colors, such as burgundy, maroon, black, dark blue, gold, and silver," said Hengki at The Grand Mansion Menteng Hotel, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, in his press release.

It is hoped that this elegant collection can bring honor to the name of Indonesian designers in the international fashion industry.

Hengki also revealed that the collection to be showcased on February 12 is supported by local shoe brand, Langkah by Lina Lee, Makeup Artist (MUA), Farah, and young photographer, Veremia Leonard.

Sneak Peek of Collections by 7 Indonesian Designers Going to New York Fashion Week

Dream - Seven brands from Indonesian designers, namely Buttonscarves, KAMI, Zeta Privé, Anggia Mawardi, Lenny Hartono, Nada Puspita, and Ayu Dyah Andari x BT Batik Trusmi, will each present a collection consisting of 10 looks in the NYFW (New York Fashion Week) Autumn/Winter 2023 fashion show.

All collections are prepared thoroughly and in detail well in advance. Supported by the Ministry of Trade, the designers showcase several collections that they will bring to New York on January 31, 2023, to various media.

'The Dream Capsules' by Buttonscarves

Ferdike Yunuri Nadya/ Dream

Buttonscarves will showcase ready-to-wear fashion themed 'The Dream Capsules'. A collection inspired by modern styles wrapped in modest fashion.

This collection features Buttonscarves' signature monogram, consisting of blazer coats, shirt dresses, denim shirts, classic shirts, and modern blouses. Presented in 10 looks with classic colors such as black, warm neutrals, midnight blue, and bright colors like red and pink clay as additional color accents.

The cuts and shapes of The Dream Capsules collection also follow the Fall/Winter 2023 trends, with lace details, puff sleeves, and pleated accents, but still keeping up with the trends.

'Charaka' by KAMI.

KAMI. has prepared a collection titled Charaka, inspired by the local richness of Lampung's Tapis fabric.

Its clean and neat lines form silhouettes with a modern approach. Originally, Tapis fabric is considered sacred as it is related to life, both in the environment and the Creator of the universe.

'Talking Point' by Zeta Privé

New York, as the center of business, art, and fashion, is always a topic of conversation. This inspired Zeta Privé to adopt the theme "The Talking Point" for the collection to be brought to New York Fashion Week 2023.

The collection showcased is a blend of elegant and modern modest wear, embodying the spirit of American Style. The color palette includes soft and versatile shades such as cream, gossamer pink, harbour blue, basil, and innuendo.

This collection also features bolder elements with black accessories showcasing artistic designs of iconic New York landmarks.

This combination is presented to provide surprises in styling, with the aim of making the wearer the Talking Points, which is the main theme of Zeta Prive's collection.

'Komorebi' by AM BY ANGGIASARI

AM is a Modest Brand that embraces the Sustainable Concept with a recycling strategy as its DNA. Anggiasari is the fashion creator behind it.

Anggia utilizes leftover denim from local Indonesian garment manufacturers or overstock, reject, or defective denim products. These materials are combined with environmentally friendly and skin-friendly fabrics containing 85-100% cotton.

At the New York Fashion Week 2023, AM by Anggiasari will collaborate with Boolao, a brand that shares the same sustainable concept. Boolao's theme is "Shibori on Ecoprint textiles," which combines the techniques of natural ecoprint dyeing and tie-dye with authentic designs on various silk fabrics.

'Song(s) of Archipelago' by Lenny Hartono

'Song(s) of Archipelago' showcases one of the many types of Indonesian traditional woven fabrics, namely Songket.

At the Indonesia Now event in NYFW 2023, Songket collections from Bali with earth tone-colored fabrics will be showcased.

The specific type of Songket used is Songket Sidemen, which originates from the village of Sidemen in Bali, Indonesia. The weaving in this Songket has a motif called Patra Sari, which is a botanical pattern commonly used to decorate traditional Balinese buildings.

'A Breath of Modesty' by Nada Puspita

At the New York Fashion Show FM 2023, Nada Puspita will showcase a collection themed 'A Breath of Modesty.'

More than just comfortable clothing, this special collection features modest styles as the main characteristic of Nada Puspita, with feminine and classic design touches.

In total, there are 10 looks with various outfit combinations, including shirt dresses, wide-leg trousers, flared skirts, cardigans, and statement dresses. The collection is also adorned with various accents that add a feminine touch, such as pleated accents, puff sleeves, and dramatic ruffles.

This collection is made from a combination of materials such as organza, sateen, and tile, which enhance the classic impression of this unique collection.

'Basundarl: Kala di Wedari' by Ayu Dyah Andari with BT Batik Trusmi

Showcasing the collaboration collection between Ayu Dyah Andari and BT Batik Trusmi, "Basundari: Kala di Wedari" highlights the beauty of floral motifs in Mega Mendung batik.

The ancient phrase originating from Sanskrit and Old Javanese, Basundari means "here among the flowers on earth". This is inspired by the true nature of Indonesian women who have a high spirit to dedicate themselves to themselves, their families, and their homeland.
