Sneak Peek at Traditional Clothing Collection by Ivan Gunawan and Danny Satriadi at Sabang Merauke Exhibition

Dream - The Sabang Merauke Exhibition with the theme 'National Heroes' was successfully held at JIEXpo, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on August 19 and 20, 2023.

The event, which showcased Indonesian culture, attracted attention by presenting captivating regional music and dance performances for two hours, featuring famous artists such as Isyana Sarasvati, Cantika Abigail, and Mirabeth Sonia.

Not only the singing and dancing, but the costumes worn by the performers also caught attention. It turns out that the costumes worn by the performers, including hundreds of dancers involved, were designs by 17 renowned Indonesian designers.

Among the designers involved were Ivan Gunawan, Era Soekamto, Danny Satriadi, Denny Wirawan, Ghea Panggabean, and Taufik Bachtiar, who are also members of the Indonesian Fashion Designers Association (IPMI).

To create these hundreds of regional costumes, these designers spent 2 months designing them.

"We conducted research on the meaning and origins of each dance, song, local wisdom, and traditional clothing, which will be highlighted and presented to the public," said Era Soekamto in Jakarta.

Meanwhile, Ivan Gunawan intentionally created regional costumes using traditional fabrics that are rich in cultural meanings.

"I use traditional fabrics and the spectacular and mesmerizing ethnic cultures of Indonesia," said Ivan.

The regional costumes used in this exhibition, from Aceh to Papua, were all made by the skilled hands of Indonesian designers.

In this exhibition, Isyana's appearance was also mesmerizing when she performed as Ibu Fatmawati. The white kebaya she wore was designed by Era Soekamto.

"Because she comes from Bengkulu, Isyana will wear songket fabric, white kebaya, and white selendang, which are the traditional attire of Ibu Fatmawati," explained Era.

There was also Isyana's appearance wearing a classic batik kebaya with gold embroidery and a siger accessory from Subeng Klasik.

"In addition to appearances rich in culture, we also encourage the audience to wear the best Nusantara traditional fabrics," said Era.
