He was reported to have sneaked into the Wells Fargo Bank South Main Street on Monday morning. Santacroce then handed a piece of paper to the teller containing an apology request.

"Please forgive me for doing this, but this is a robbery. Please give me $1.00 Thank you," he said in the letter quoted from OddityCenter.

The teller immediately thought it was just a joke. Without much thought, they complied with the man's request and told him to leave with his $1.

The man thought that the teller might immediately call the police. He was ready to wait in the bank lobby to be arrested.

A manager accidentally overheard Santacroce's conversation while escorting employees out of the building through the back door. The man complained about the police taking so long to arrest him.

Fortunately, the man did not carry any sharp weapons that could harm others. Moreover, the police took a long time to arrive at the scene.

After a while, the police arrived and arrested the 65-year-old man, unaware that this was his plan all along. No one knows for sure why this man did something irrational.

He seemed to really want to end up in jail. However, the police released him. He admitted that he would rob a bank again until he ended up in jail.
