Fortunately, the scam was successfully thwarted by local residents. The police have now arrested the perpetrators and are investigating the case according to the law.
Based on information, there were two elderly victims who were deceived. The alleged perpetrators of the scam were three people who used a car.
The incident began when an elderly person returned from studying around 12 noon. Then, three perpetrators who were driving a car suddenly approached the victim.
The elderly person was then persuaded and promised an easy departure for hajj and umrah. The condition was that they had to hand over their valuable belongings.
Previously, there was another elderly person who agreed to go first with the perpetrators because they had the same goal. It was mentioned that the perpetrators targeted the victims' belongings, starting from necklaces and one of the victims' savings.
One of the elderly people then returned home to take their savings amounting to IDR 4 million. The child realized that something unusual was happening with their parents and reprimanded them.
It was mentioned that the savings would be given to the perpetrators as a condition for going on hajj and umrah. And it would be exchanged for Peruvian and North Korean currencies.
The suspicious child immediately stopped the incident and foiled the perpetrators, followed by other residents. They immediately swarmed the perpetrators' car and took them to a house for interrogation.
The residents also secured fake dollar bills, Peruvian and North Korean currencies, as well as hundreds of millions of rupiah that the perpetrators brought. However, when examined, it turned out that the money was just toys.
Finally, the residents reported the incident to the police and both perpetrators were arrested. However, according to the information, one perpetrator managed to escape.
"At that time, the first victim was still inside the car. Not long after, people swarmed the perpetrator," he said.
