Procedure for Performing Dhuhr Prayer and Its Virtues for Muslims Comedian Kadir (KLY)

Dream – Dhuhr prayer is one of the five obligatory prayers. Dhuhr prayer is performed at midday, right after the sun passes its zenith in the sky until before the sun sets in the west. Dhuhr prayer consists of four units.

This prayer is obligatory to perform, as not doing so will result in sin. Until now, many people are neglectful of this obligation. One of the reasons for not performing Dhuhr prayer is due to busy work schedules.

Allah commanded the Prophet Muhammad to encourage his family to establish prayer, as stated in Surah Taha, verse 132, which says: “Command your family to establish prayer and be steadfast in performing it. We do not ask you for provision; We provide for you, and the best outcome is for those who are mindful of Allah” (Surah Taha, verse 132).

Here is the procedure for performing Dhuhr prayer that is obligatory for Muslims, along with its virtues as summarized by Dream from several sources.

Intention for Dhuhr Prayer

Reciting the intention is an important thing to do before performing the prayer. Here is the recitation of the intention for Dhuhr prayer.

1. Intention for Individual Dhuhr Prayer

Nawaitu sholaata dzuhrin lillahi ta'ala.

Meaning: "I intend to perform Dhuhr prayer for the sake of Allah Ta'ala.

2. Intention for Dhuhr Prayer in Congregation

Nawaitu an usholla bi imam il-jama'ah, dzuhri sunnatani lillahi ta'ala.

Meaning: "I intend to follow the Dhuhr prayer in congregation, following the imam, for the sake of Allah Ta'ala."

3. Intention for Dhuhr Prayer as the Imam

Nawaitu an akuna imaman lisholati dzuhrin jam'iyyatin sunnatan lillahi ta'ala.

Meaning: "I intend to become the imam in the congregational Dhuhr prayer, following the sunnah, for the sake of Allah Ta'ala."

Inni wajjahtu wajhiya lilladzii fataras samawaati wal ardha, haniifam muslimaw wamaa anaa minal musyrikiin.Inna sholaatii wa nusukii wa mahyaaya wa mamaatii lillaahi rabbil aalamiin. Allah is the Greatest, His greatness is perfect. All praise is for Allah, the praise that is abundant. And glory be to Allah in the morning and evening." Thus, I turn my face towards the One who created the heavens and the earth, sincerely and as a Muslim, and I am not one of the polytheists. Indeed, my prayer, my worship, my life, and my death are all for Allah, the Lord of the worlds. He has no partner, and thus I have been commanded, and I am among the Muslims.

Virtues of Dhuhr Prayer

1. Attaining Great Rewards

The Prophet Muhammad SAW said, "The prayer that is most burdensome to the hypocrites is the Dhuhr and 'Isha' prayers. If they only knew the great rewards in them, they would come even if they had to crawl." (Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim) This shows the immense rewards given to those who perform Dhuhr prayer.

2. Sign of Obedience to Allah

Performing Dhuhr prayer is a sign of obedience and compliance with Allah's command. It reflects our relationship as servants who submit to the One True God.

3. Blessings in the Middle of the Day

Dhuhr prayer is performed in the middle of the day, and by doing so, we receive blessings from Allah. Prophet Muhammad SAW said, "In it (the Dhuhr prayer) there is blessings. So pray for all of you." (HR. Abu Dawud)

4. Cleansing of Sins

Dhuhr prayer can also cleanse sins. Prophet Muhammad said, "When the time for Dhuhr prayer comes, sins are covered by it." (HR. Muslim) This shows that Dhuhr prayer has the effect of cleansing our sins.
