"Line of Animals that Have Behaviors Similar to Humans"
There are many animals that surprisingly exhibit behavior similar to humans.
There are many animals that surprisingly exhibit behavior similar to humans.
In the world of animals, we are often fascinated by the behavior of animals that seem to reflect human actions or emotions. From chimpanzees using tools to find food to elephants showing signs of sadness when losing a member of their herd. In various studies, scientists have observed that some animals can solve problems, cooperate in groups, and even show signs of empathy. Below is a list of some animals that have similar behaviors to humans.
Simpanse is the closest living relative of humans. Simpanse has five main personality traits that are the same as humans, namely caution, openness, friendliness, extraversion, and neuroticism. Scientists have found that male chimpanzees are more friendly in forming stronger social bonds and tend to live longer. Other research shows that chimpanzees, like children, imitate human behavior such as waving, clapping, and kissing. And like humans, chimpanzees also fight to expand their territory.
Gorillas are large primates that exhibit human-like characteristics. They use facial expressions and body movements to communicate, and can experience joy, empathy, and sadness. A study on gorilla behavior in 2016 found personality variations among different gorilla populations. And the traits that are mostly human-like vary among five gorilla groups, including mountain gorillas (Gorilla beringei beringei) and western lowland gorillas (Gorilla gorilla gorilla), which inhabit various habitats in Africa.
Dolphins are known for their intelligence and social abilities, and a study found that dolphins are similar to humans and other primates. Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) have open and sociable personality traits, and are not unpleasant. "Throughout our lives, we interact and form relationships with various people, and dolphins do the same with each other," says Blake Morton, a psychology lecturer at the University of Hull in England.
With their large brains, high intelligence, strong social bonds, and empathetic behavior, Asian elephants (Elephas maximus) exhibit many traits similar to humans. In 2006, researchers discovered that elephants recognize themselves in mirrors, and in 2015, a team of researchers concluded that elephants have exceptional long-term memory.
Like humans, the magpie bird, which belongs to the crow family, can create and use tools to feed its offspring and imitate human sounds. Other studies have also found evidence that the European magpie (Pica pica) can recognize itself in the mirror.
The following is the translation of the 'Bahasa' text to 'English' while preserving any html tags: "Bird Jay Eurasia (Garrulus glandarius) is also a member of the corvid family. This bird can learn how to use tools and demonstrate an extraordinary level of self-control. A 2022 study found that Eurasian Jays have self-control. In the study, scientists found that Eurasian Jays could resist the temptation to immediately eat bamboo worms. The scientists concluded that Jays have the highest level of self-control in intelligence tests."
Orca (Orcinus orca), also known as killer whales, can form strong social bonds and live in family groups called pods. Orca have the ability to hunt, share food, communicate, and socialize within their group. When studying the behavior of 24 captured orcas, researchers found that, like humans and chimpanzees, orcas exhibit extraversion traits, as shown by their cheerfulness and affection.
In the study, scientists observed evidence of mice helping each other by allowing one mouse to roam freely while the others were trapped in a container. The free mouse seemed to experience the same emotional stress as the trapped mouse, and despite no reward, it voluntarily freed the captured mouse. However, a study in 2014 revealed that the desire for social contact is what motivates mice to save trapped mice.
In a 2018 study published in the journal Learning and Behavior, researchers found that dogs (Canis lupus familiaris) pay attention when people are in distress and try to comfort them. In the experiment, dog owners cried or hummed behind a closed door. Dogs that suppressed their own stress reactions to comfort humans would open the door the fastest. This demonstrates dogs' behavior as evidence of empathy.
Bird bluebird mountain male (Sialia currucoides) appears to be jealous when rejected for mating, according to a 1975 study published in The American Naturalist journal. Researchers found that when male bluebirds leave their nests to search for food, their female partners may move on to other male birds. In response, male bluebirds strike their partners by plucking feathers and breaking their beaks.
