"Dream - Actress Dian Sastrowardoyo portrays the character Dasiyah in the original Netflix Indonesia series "Gadis Kretek"."
Different from the Role of Kartini
Dian feels that the strong woman figure in Kartini, which she once portrayed, is very contrasting with the character Dasiyah.
"The character Dasiyah is very different from me. This character has a different way of speaking than me, a different way of expressing themselves, different body gestures, tempo, way of walking, everything is different from me. So I feel challenged to portray this character."

Many joys and sorrows that Dian felt when portraying the character of Dasiyah. Not only from the way she built chemistry with other actors, but she also had to become anti-social (ansos) in order to embody the character of Dasiyah.

According to Dian, Dasiyah's character is very far from her true self. She even had to isolate herself from friends for six months to embody the role. "My effort to portray Dasiyah was such that I had to stop meeting my friends, for about 6 months. I stopped socializing. I also stopped exercising," she said.
