The statement read by the Rector of UII, Fathul Wahid, highlights the national political developments that are considered shamelessly abusing authority, power, and resources for the practical political interests of a certain group.

"Indonesian democracy is increasingly eroded and experiencing setbacks. This condition is further exacerbated by the fading of statesmanship from President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo. The main indicator is the nomination of Gibran Rakabuming Raka as vice president candidate based on the decision of the Constitutional Court No. 90/PUU-XXI/2023."

"Furthermore, the issue of the decision-making process is filled with political intervention and has been proven to violate ethics, causing the Chairman of the Constitutional Court, Anwar Usman, to be dismissed. The academic community of UII assesses that this phenomenon becomes more apparent when Jokowi mentioned that the president can campaign and take sides, thus declaring the institution's lack of neutrality."

"The latest development, the distribution of social assistance through the distribution of rice and direct cash assistance (BLT) by President Joko Widodo is also suspected to be laden with practical political nuances aimed at personalizing support for certain presidential and vice presidential candidates," the statement said. In addition, they see indications of mobilization of state apparatus for the benefit of supporting certain candidate pairs, which certainly violates the law and constitution."

"The situation above is evidence that Indonesia is currently experiencing a state of emergency in civility that could lead to the collapse of the legal system and democracy," said Fathul. "The President must remain neutral, fair, and be a leader for all groups and communities, not just for certain groups."

"Secondly, demanding President Joko Widodo and all government officials to stop abusing power by not mobilizing and not utilizing state resources for practical political interests, including, among others, by not politicizing and personalizing social assistance," said Fathul. "Thirdly, calling on the DPR to actively carry out its supervisory function, ensuring that the government operates in accordance with the constitutional and legal framework, and not hijack democracy that neglects the interests and future of the nation."

"Four, urging the presidential candidates, vice presidential candidates, ministers, and regional leaders who are part of the successful team, as well as the campaign team of one of the candidates, to resign from their positions, in order to avoid potential conflicts of interest that could harm the nation and state," he said. Furthermore, he invited the Indonesian public to participate in ensuring that the general elections are conducted honestly, fairly, and safely, in order to achieve a government that has a strong legitimacy based on respect for the people's vote."

Lastly, asking all elements of the nation to together take care of the ideals of independence by fighting for the realization of a healthy democratic climate.
