Dream - Chairman of the University of Indonesia (UI) Professors Council, Harkristuti Harkrisnowo, said there has been intimidation received by the academic community of UI regarding their stance in voicing national messages for President Joko (Widodo)'s government.

According to him, the intimidation was received through a WhatsApp message from an alumnus. According to him, the alumnus did not want to join in expressing criticism like Gadjah Mada University (UGM) and the Islamic University of Indonesia (UII).

"We were also somewhat intimidated, actually, to ensure that our elections run fairly and smoothly. We received a WhatsApp message from one of our students expressing disappointment, questioning why UI (University of Indonesia) is following UGM (Gadjah Mada University), following UII (Islamic University of Indonesia), and so on, because we should be able to go to the authorities and convey our ideas," said Harkristuti.

He stated that the alumni of UI who carried out the intimidation were uniformed officials. However, Harkristuti does not know the institution of those alumni. According to the information, that person is a graduate of the law faculty.

"Coincidentally, he is from the same batch. But I don't know which batch, but he was wearing a uniform. Even though he didn't mention names and other things, he tried to prevent us from carrying out what we are doing today," he said. Harkristuti mentioned that there were several people who received the same WhatsApp message. She admitted that she only explained that this academic community's attitude is part of academic freedom."
