The event occurred when Afrizal Sintong and Sulaiman attended the inauguration of several Acting Village Heads (kades) on Thursday, 1 February 2024.

In the circulating video, it can be seen that Sulaiman approached Afrizal Sintong who was sitting on the guest chair. In another video, initially they seemed to be chatting as usual. However, suddenly they became tense and it seemed to ignite each other's emotions. They even almost came to blows if not restrained by several people around them.

In response to the matter, Sulaiman explained that he has never fought with Afrizal Sintong.

"I have never felt like I was fighting with the regent, what happened was that I was oppressed by the regent. There is no confirmation of being oppressed at every inauguration event, especially in 2023. Suddenly, they inaugurated both the Acting Village Chief and the School Principal. I should at least know, because I am the deputy regent," said Sulaiman, as quoted from riauin.com, Friday, February 2, 2024. Sulaiman added that initially he approached the regent and asked for clarification because he was not informed or invited to the event."

"Until we argued, I asked the regent. Why was the Sub-district Head of Bangko replaced? It turns out that the Sub-district Head of Bangko is my sibling. I asked why the regent replaced him? The regent answered, 'He didn't follow orders.' The question now is, what orders are we talking about?" Sulaiman said. During the argument, the regent's wife, who was present at the time and involved in the discussion, was reprimanded by Sulaiman. This is believed to have caused the regent to become angry and push his deputy.

"I didn't pay attention, I focused on being a regent. I said (while pointing) don't interfere, this is my matter with the regent. The regent pushed me, and reflexively I pushed back," he said. Sulaiman mentioned that he didn't want that incident to happen. He emphasized that there was no intention to disrupt the inauguration at that time."
