Quoting from the South China Morning Post, a wedding became the center of attention because it was considered too extravagant. 'The Ye Family Wedding Party' took place in Putian, Fujian province, southeastern China.

"In the ceiling, there hang a pair of wooden dragons and a phoenix bird. Not only that, there is also a small bridge and a traditional Chinese-style pavilion, as well as red lantern decorations. The family even dried their large fish pond a year before so that it could be used as a location to set up a luxurious wedding stage."

A sign on the stage displays the name of the groom as Ye Dingfeng and the name of the bride as Yang Hanying. The groom is believed to be the son of Ye Guochun, the leader of a prominent Chinese gold jewelry retailer, Lao Feng Xiang. Meanwhile, the bride is referred to as the daughter of a manager who works for the brand in the northern province. The company did not deny these speculations.

"Compared to this grand wedding, any novelist who describes a luxurious wedding would consider it too conservative," she said. The wedding in Fujian was held as authorities nationwide called on the public to boycott extravagant events.
