According to the man who is affectionately called Gus Salam, the General Chairman of PBNU held an informal gathering with the ranks of the Chairpersons of PCNU throughout East Java in Surabaya, Wednesday, December 27, 2023. One of the agendas of the meeting was the removal of Kiai Marzuki Mustamar from his position as the Chairman of PWNU East Java.

However, Gus Salam admitted that he did not know the reason PBNU dismissed the caretaker of Pondok Pesantren Sabilurrosyad Gasek, Malang. He asked reporters to ask PBNU directly.

"Meanwhile, the Deputy Chairman of PBNU, Amin Said Husni, stated that the dismissal of Kiai Marzuki Mustamar is an internal organizational issue. This is a normal matter. It is an internal organizational issue, said Amin Said."

"According to him, the dismissal of KH Marzuki has been processed for a long time, so it has nothing to do with the practical political interests of 2024.
“The dismissal process is also in accordance with the bylaws and existing provisions,” said Gus Salam. Amin also mentioned that there are already regulations regarding the replacement of the PWNU Chairman.
