Dream - Prime Minister (PM) Slovakia, Robert Fico, was shot multiple times by an elderly man after attending a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 local time. Fico initially wanted to greet the people around the cabinet meeting building. At that time, an elderly man pointed a gun at him and shot the 59-year-old prime minister multiple times.

Deputy Prime Minister of Slovakia, Tomas Taraba, who also serves as Minister of the Environment, told BBC Newshour that Fico is expected to survive and is no longer in a life-threatening condition. "I am very surprised... fortunately, as far as I know, the operation went well -- and I believe he will ultimately survive... he is not currently in a life-threatening condition," said Taraba.

According to Taraba, one bullet penetrated Fico's stomach, while another hit his shoulder. Fico, who won the general election last September, served as prime minister four times. He is a veteran politician who is accused of altering his country's foreign policy for the interests of the Kremlin.

One of them was when Fico questioned the sovereignty of Ukraine and called for compromise with Russia, which has been invading since 2022. After he was elected, Slovakia stopped sending weapons to Ukraine. He promised during the election campaign not to give a single bullet to Ukraine.
