Dream - Every 10th of Dhu al-Hijjah, Muslims around the world celebrate the holiday of Eid al-Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice. At this moment, Muslims will perform the congregational Eid prayer and continue with the sacrifice of the sacrificial animal. As it is known, the act of sacrifice has a history filled with wisdom. At that time, Prophet Ibrahim received a command from Allah SWT to sacrifice his son, Prophet Ismail. Now, Muslims perform this act of worship by sacrificing animals such as cows, buffaloes, goats, and sheep.
In the slaughter of sacrificial animals, it cannot be done carelessly, but must be in accordance with Islamic law.
With that, God willing, the worship can bring blessings and certainly be valid in the eyes of Allah SWT. Well, here are the procedures for slaughtering sacrificial animals according to Islamic law as summarized by Dream through various sources.
"The act of sacrificial worship has many virtues in Islam, both from a spiritual, social, and moral perspective. Here are some virtues of performing the act of sacrificial worship:"
The following is the translation of the given 'Bahasa' text to 'English' while preserving any html tags: "Sacrifice worship is a form of obedience and submission to Allah SWT. By performing the sacrifice, a Muslim demonstrates obedience to the command of Allah, which can enhance piety and faith."
Sacrifice is a form of commemoration of the story of the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim (as) who was willing to sacrifice his son, Ismail (as), as an act of obedience to Allah. This teaches Muslims about the importance of obedience and sacrifice in carrying out Allah's commands.
"The sacrificial meat is distributed to those in need, such as the poor, relatives, and neighbors. This strengthens the bond of kinship and fosters feelings of empathy and social concern among the Muslim community."
In the hadith, it is mentioned that the flowing blood of the sacrificial animal will bear witness before Allah and can erase the sins that have passed, as narrated in the authentic hadith.
The implementation of sacrificial worship receives great rewards from Allah SWT. Each strand of sacrificial animal's fur will be rewarded, as mentioned in various hadiths.
Performing sacrifices is one form of gratitude for the blessings that have been bestowed by Allah SWT. By slaughtering sacrificial animals, a Muslim expresses gratitude for the sustenance and blessings that have been received.
Sacrifice worship is a highly recommended sunnah, strongly encouraged by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). By performing the sacrifice, Muslims follow the sunnah and footsteps of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who always performed the sacrifice every year.
In order for the worship to bring blessings and be valid in the eyes of Allah SWT, the following are the procedures for slaughtering sacrificial animals according to Islamic law:
First, make sure that the tool to be used for slaughtering is truly sharp. This is in accordance with the saying of the Prophet Muhammad: "Allah commands to do good to everything. When you kill, then improve the way and condition of killing, and when you slaughter, then improve the slaughtering, and sharpen the knife, and calm the slaughtered animal." (Narrated by Muslim)
The second way is by facing the animal towards the qibla. As explained in a hadith narrated by Abu Dawud as follows: "Verily, I turn my face to the One who has created the heavens and the earth, sincerely and wholeheartedly, and I am not one of the polytheists. Indeed, my prayer, my devotion, my life, and my death are for Allah, the One who rules the universe."
"There is no partner for Him, and thus I have been commanded and I am among the Muslims. In the name of Allah, Allah is the Greatest, O Allah (this sacrifice) is from You and for You and from Muhammad and his followers. In the name of Allah, Allah is the Greatest. Then he slaughtered it." (Narrated by Abu Dawud)
When slaughtering sacrificial animals, do not forget to recite the prayer first. This is with the hope that Allah SWT accepts the sacrifice that friend Dream carries out. Here is the prayer for slaughtering sacrificial animals that needs to be known: اللَّهُمَّ هَذِهِ مِنْكَ وَإِلَيْكَ فَتَقَبَّلْ مِنِّي يَا كَرِيمُAllâhumma hâdzihî minka wa ilaika, fataqabbal minnî yâ karîm.
Meaning: "It means: 'Oh my Lord, this animal is a blessing from You. And with this, I seek closeness to You. Therefore, O Most Merciful Lord, accept my act of seeking closeness.'"
The person who slaughters sacrificial animals must fulfill the prescribed conditions. Namely, they must be a Muslim or someone who is legally married to a Muslim. Then, if the animal is ghoiru maqdur (uncontrollable), it is required that the person who slaughters is someone who can see. If the person who slaughters is blind, a child who has not reached the age of discernment, or someone who is intoxicated, then the slaughter is considered makruh.
In the process of slaughter, the slaughterer must cut the hulqum (airway) and mari' (foodway). This is done if the animal is maqdur (able to be slaughtered and controlled).
