Viral Tap Water in Batam Turns into Thick Black, Small Worm-like Creature Found

Dream - A video showing black-colored tap water has gone viral on social media. The video was shared by a netizen believed to be residing in Batam. The video was uploaded on the Instagram story of the account @nilamnilss and reposted by @semuatentangbatam. The video recorder shows the tap water in their house being a dark black color, similar to polluted river water or drain water. After a few moments of being turned on, the tap water flowing onto the floor appears to change into a darker shade of brown.

"The other video shows the moment when the tap water is collected in a red-colored container in the bathroom. The collected water appears very cloudy, to the point that even light can reflect on it."

In the upload description, it is written that the video was recorded on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Melati Residence Cluster, Tiban, Batam.

Other posts mention that the water in the Kampung Panglong Batubesar area, Batam, was murky on Wednesday, January 3, 2024. In the video, a filter is seen installed under the tap water. In the filter, there are small worm-like creatures suspected to be flowing along with the tap water.

In response to the matter, PT. Air Batam Hilir (ABH) SPAM Batam stated that the blackened water is due to pipe leaks in 3 (three) areas located in Tiban 1, Tiban Princess, and Tiban Diamond, Kota Batam.

"Because there is a broken pipe in the Tiban area. Thus causing disruption to the supply and quality of water in Tiban and its surrounding areas,"

Ginda explained, the leakage repair has been completed, the water quality has returned to normal, and most of the affected areas from this work.
