Dream - Presentation of the ready-to-wear collection of Mowalola's fashion line, designed by Mowalola Ogunlesi, at London Fashion Week has sparked controversy. The show, which took place on Saturday, September 16, 2023, London time, drew attention because one of the mini skirts showcased was considered disrespectful to Islam. According to Fashionista, the 28-year-old Nigerian fashion designer displayed several mini skirts with international flag designs printed on them, including the flags of Japan, England, and Saudi Arabia.
In the case of the Saudi Arabian flag, its design includes the phrase Shahada. Because the Shahada phrase on the flag is believed to be sacred by Muslims, printing the flag on clothing is considered an offensive act.
Not long after Mowalola's fashion presentation, the public visited the designer's Instagram account, commenting on flag emojis massively and asking Ogunlesi to respect the text and apologize for his design. The designer then used his X account, previously Twitter, to mock those comments, writing, "Cry me a river" and "The mini skirt that becomes a war action in 2023 is very dystopian." This post has been deleted. As the demand for an apology continued online, Ogunlesi returned to X to reveal,
"One of my main inspirations for SS24 is the use of national flags from various countries. After the show, I discovered that one of the flags, Saudi Arabia, displays sacred words, and its use has caused significant protests."

In addition, he also conveyed his apology and assured that he will remove that controversial design from his collection.
"Now, after I understand this topic, I sincerely apologize. I will ensure that this design is removed from the collection. I deeply regret any loss or violation that may have been caused by my negligence. Thank you for holding me accountable, and I appreciate your understanding as I learn from this experience."
The designer's signature is on his/her X account.
"Although it is not yet known exactly when the display will be removed, Runway Mode seems to follow in Mowalola's footsteps, removing the image from its online collection overview."
