TikToker Humza Islam also claimed that his hair became healthier after not using shampoo for a year, although initially, it was difficult to maintain such a habit.

In another source, Islam reveals that her hair no longer falls out and becomes thicker. However, she only rinses her hair every two days and uses apple cider vinegar on her scalp every week. She also reveals that this trend is sometimes done to replace shampoo with products that are considered safer.

According to Sam Carpenter, a Global Educator at the hair care company EIDEAL, this trend started to familiarize hair with not being cleaned too often, although he does not recommend it.

Although many people have healthy hair after following the anti-shampoo trend, there are still many who have stopped doing it. Some people also experience hair loss, dandruff, dryness, and even almost baldness after not using shampoo for 1 year.
This trend was responded by Dermatologist, Anastasia Therianou and Angela Tewari. Therianou herself considers that this trend can trigger itchy scalp and make people scratch the affected area, as well as break the hair down to the roots.
"Sweat, oil, and residual dirt on the scalp can clog hair follicles, thus inhibiting hair growth. While Tewari believes that washing hair with just water can make the hair accustomed to producing the right amount of natural oil, this has not been scientifically proven. 'The scalp and hair collect dirt, oil, and sweat. To effectively remove them, you need a surfactant as a cleanser. Water alone will not remove the dirt and oil,' says Tewari.
