The assistance scheme for the unemployed is designed through discussions involving the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC). As for the recipients of the assistance, they are required to participate in a number of trainings such as career training, counseling, and job matching. \

"Wong said the government has been studying for some time how to help those who are experiencing unemployment due to layoffs or bankrupt companies.
'Some countries have unemployment insurance; however, the experience is not always positive, because after receiving a large benefit, the person may feel more inclined to remain unemployed than to return to work,' said Wong."
