"Dream - China's move to ban employees from using iPhones while working turns out to be more than just a bluff. In fact, the government of China will expand the scope of provinces that must implement this ban policy. Employees in various state-owned enterprises and government departments in eight provinces in China are asked not to bring iPhones or other Western phones to the workplace, according to unnamed sources quoted from Bloomberg by Insider."
The translation of "Larang Pakai iPhone" to English is "Prohibit Using iPhone."
"This is the latest expansion of Beijing's campaign against American technology giants, with China reportedly banning some central government employees from bringing their iPhones to work in September," wrote Insider.
"This instruction has now been expanded to smaller companies and institutions in provincial cities, according to Bloomberg, as a sign that the Chinese government is intensifying its crackdown."
The Chinese government had previously denied reports that they were restricting the use of foreign phones, including those made by Apple. However, they also questioned the security of Apple smartphones as they seek to free the country from Western technology, and there are signs that this push may have impacted Apple's position in the country.
"This is referred to as the latest blow for Apple in China, with the company facing poor sales of the iPhone 15 and strong local competition such as the Huawei Mate 60."
The Huawei Mate 60 Pro smartphone was launched a few weeks before the iPhone 15 and sold nearly 1.5 million units in the first month, which is double the number achieved by the previous Huawei model.
"Apple also finds itself caught in the midst of a broader geopolitical struggle between the US and China due to its dependence on the Asian superpower. This US company still makes over 95% of its iPhones, Macs, and iPads in China, despite efforts to change that in recent years."
"Apple has been working to improve the "symbiotic" relationship it has with China in recent months, with its CEO Tim Cook making at least two visits to the country this year and the company agreeing to new rules regarding which apps can be launched."
"However, the reported expansion of the iPhone ban in China suggests that Apple's efforts will ultimately be in vain. Apple itself has not yet responded to a request for comment from Business Insider."
