Answer from the Quran about When the Day of Judgment Will Occur

When there were Quraysh people from Mecca who asked Prophet Muhammad about when the Day of Judgment will occur, he received revelation from Allah SWT. The question from the Quraysh people was their assumption that the Day of Judgment is impossible to happen.

This is explained in His words through the verse of Surah Ash-Shura verse 18:

"Those who do not believe in the Day of Judgment ask for it to come quickly, and those who believe are afraid of it and they are certain that the Day of Judgment is true. Know that those who deny the occurrence of the Day of Judgment are truly far astray." (Surah Ash-Shura: 18)

The question given by the Quraysh people was a denial that must be answered by Prophet Muhammad with a wise answer. He answered, the issue of when the Day of Judgment will occur is not a human matter, even for a prophet.

However, it is the affair of Allah SWT. Only Allah SWT knows when the Judgment Day will occur along with the process of its occurrence.

As a prophet, his duty is only to give a warning about the truth of the coming of the Day of Judgment and the magnitude of that event through the Quran.

"They ask you (Muhammad) about the Day of Judgment, "When will it happen?" Say, "Indeed, knowledge of the Day of Judgment is with my Lord; no one can explain its timing except Him. (The Day of Judgment) is very heavy (in its turmoil) for the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth, it will not come to you except suddenly." They ask you as if you know it." Say (Muhammad), "Indeed, knowledge of (the Day of Judgment) is with Allah, but most people do not know."" (Surah Al-A'raf: 187)
