Although Pharaoh did not want to believe in Allah SWT, the sorcerers who served Pharaoh, on the other hand, repented and acknowledged that the miracles possessed by Prophet Moses were from Allah SWT.

The Showdown between Prophet Moses and Pharaoh's Sorcerers

One day, Allah SWT commanded Prophet Moses and his brother, Aaron, to invite Pharaoh to believe in Allah SWT. However, in their efforts, Pharaoh instead tested Prophet Moses by confronting him with the sorcerers.

They would compete in their greatness, witnessed by many people. This is even explained in Surah Al-A'raf verse 115:

"They (the magicians) said, 'O Moses, either you throw or shall we be the first to throw?'" (QS. Al-A'raf: 115)

Then, Moses answered:

"He (Moses) said, 'Throw!' So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck terror into them, and they presented a great [feat of] magic." (QS. Al-A'raf: 116)

At that time, Pharaoh ordered his sorcerers to throw something, and the object turned into a snake. Then, Allah SWT revealed to Prophet Moses to throw his staff. At that moment, Prophet Moses' staff turned into a large snake and ate the snakes of the sorcerers.

However, Pharaoh, who witnessed the greatness of Prophet Moses' staff, thought that Prophet Moses was using magic. He did not accept that what he saw was a miracle from Allah SWT.

The Repentance of the Sorcerers to Allah SWT

Seeing the greatness of Prophet Moses, where his staff could turn into a big snake and eat their snakes, the sorcerers of Pharaoh immediately decided to prostrate and repent to Allah SWT. As explained in Surah Al-A'raf verse 120:

"And the magicians fell down in prostration." (QS. Al-A'raf: 120)

The sorcerers said that they believed in the Lord of all the worlds.

"They said, 'We have believed in the Lord of all the worlds,'" (QS. Al-A'raf: 121)

The sorcerers believed in the truth of Prophet Moses' words that he was not a sorcerer. In addition, the sorcerers also realized that the magic knowledge they had all this time was nothing compared to the power of Allah SWT.

The prostration of the sorcerers is explained in Surah Taha verse 70:

"Then the magicians fell down in prostration. They said, 'We have believed in the Lord of Aaron and Moses.'" (QS. Taha: 70)

Prayers of the Sorcerers after Repenting

Pharaoh threatened the sorcerers with the punishment of having their hands and feet cut off, and being crucified. In that condition, the sorcerers prayed to Allah SWT as stated in Surah Al-A'raf verse 126:

رَبَّنَا أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًا وَتَوَفَّنَا مُسْلِمِينَ

Rabbanaaa afrigh 'alainaa sabraw wa tawaffanaa muslimiin.

Meaning: "Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims." (QS Al-A'raf: 126)
