Mother Dies After Having Lunch with Pufferfish, Daughter Sad for Not Being Able to Visit Despite Promising to Meet During Eid Homecoming

Dream - The story of an 83-year-old woman who died and her husband who was admitted to the emergency unit (ER) after eating pufferfish has gone viral on social media.

According to their daughter, Ng Ai Lee, 51, her parents did not know that the fish they bought from a seller was of a poisonous kind.

The woman added that her 84-year-old father bought the fish last Saturday because it was the only option available. Her father had never heard of pufferfish before.

However, her father still bought it because the seller was a regular customer who often came to their village in Kluang, Johor, Malaysia.

"My parents have been buying fish from the same fish seller for years. So my father didn't think twice about buying it.

"My father didn't know that what he bought could endanger their lives," Ng recalled the heartbreaking incident.

As usual, the mother, Lim Siew Guan, immediately cooked the pufferfish by frying it as a dish for lunch on that fateful day.

However, about an hour later, her mother started experiencing shortness of breath and shivering. The same symptoms also appeared in her father.

Ng said that her older brother, who lived in the same village, immediately took their mother and father to the nearest hospital.

"My other brother and I live in Kuala Lumpur. After learning about the incident, we decided to rush back to Kluang to meet our mother and father.

"Unfortunately, before we even reached halfway to Kluang, my eldest brother informed me that our mother had passed away that evening.

"I was very sad. The pain and emotions I felt at that time cannot be described because it was so unexpected," she said.

Ng added that the last time she met her parents was during the Chinese New Year holiday, and she planned to visit them during the upcoming Eid holiday, which was less than a month away.

"The last time I met my mother was when they came to Kuala Lumpur and stayed with me for a week.

"I planned to go back to the village to meet them next month during the Eid holiday," said Ng, who is the CFO of a private company in Kuala Lumpur.

The cause of her mother's death is known as food poisoning, resulting in respiratory failure and irregular heartbeats, possibly caused by the toxin from the pufferfish.

According to Ng, her father is currently in a coma in the ICU, and the hospital is trying to treat the toxin in his body.
