Prayer for Cutting a Child's Hair during Aqiqah

Dream - One of the sunnahs in Islam to welcome the arrival of a newborn baby is to hold an Aqiqah. This practice, held by the baby's family, is an expression of gratitude and happiness for the presence of a new member in the family.

Aqiqah is one of the recommended practices that is carried out by slaughtering livestock, then cooking and distributing it to relatives and neighbors. The recommendation to perform Aqiqah is in accordance with the teachings conveyed by Prophet Muhammad SAW.

The procedure for Aqiqah usually begins with the slaughter of livestock, which is then cooked. During the main event, prayers and blessings will be recited for the baby. Then, the closest family members and religious figures present will be involved in cutting the baby's hair.

Prayer for Cutting a Child's Hair during Aqiqah

After waiting for 9 months, the feeling of gratitude is certainly felt by the husband and wife when they find out that their baby is born into the world. The expression of gratitude is manifested, among other things, by holding an Aqiqah event. For those who are not able to do it, Aqiqah can be held whenever they are capable.

During the Aqiqah, there will be a process of cutting the baby's hair. At that time, there is a prayer that must be recited when cutting the hair of an Aqiqah child. Here is the prayer for cutting a child's hair during Aqiqah:

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ اللَّهُمَّ نُورُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَنُورُ الشَّمْسِ وَالْقَمَرِ اللَّهُمَّ سِرُّ اللَّهِ نُورُ النُّبُوَّةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

Artinya: "Dengan menyebut asma Allah Yang Maha Pengasih lagi Maha Penyayang. Segala puji bagi Allah, Tuhan semesta alam, Ya Allah, cahaya langit, matahari dan rembulan. Ya Allah, rahasia Allah, cahaya kenabian, Rasulullah SAW, dan segala puji bagi Allah, Tuhan semesta alam."

Prayer When Blowing on the Baby's Crown

In addition to cutting a child's hair during Aqiqah, there is also a tradition of blowing on the baby's crown while reciting prayers. Here is one of the prayers that is often recited when blowing on the baby's crown:

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أُعِيذُهَا بِكَ وَذُرِّيَّتَهَا مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ

Allahumma inni u'idzuha bika wa dzurriyyataha minasy syaithanir rajim.

Meaning: "O Allah, I seek protection for her and her offspring from the cursed Satan."

Prayer for Aqiqah Walimah

Complete the Aqiqah event by practicing the following prayer for Aqiqah Walimah:

اللَّهُمَّ حَذُوْ مِنْ شَرِّ الْجِنِّ وَالْإِنْسِ وَأُمِّ الشِّبْيَانِ وَمِنْ جَمِيْعِ السَّيِّئَاتِ وَالْعِشْيَانِ وَاحْرِسُهُ بِهَذْلَنَتِكَ وَكَفَالَتِكَ الْمَحْمُوْدَةِ وَبِدَوَامِ عِنَايَتِكَ وَرِعَايَتِكَ النَّفِيْذَةِ نُقَدِّمُ بِهَا عَلَى الْقِيَامِ بِمَا قَلَفْتَنَا مِنْ حُقُوْقِ رُبُوْبِيَّتِكَ الْكَرِيْمَةِ نَدَبْتَنَا إِلَيْهِ فِيمَا بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ خَلْقِكَ مِنْ مَكَارِمِ الْأَخْلَاقِ وَأَطْيَبُ مَا فَضَّلْتَنَا مِنَ الْأَرْزَاقِ. اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنَا وَإِيَّاهُمْ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْعِلْمِ وَأَهْلِ الْخَيْرِ وَأَهْلِ الْقُرْآنِ وَلَا تَجْعَلْنَا وَإِيَّاهُمْ مِنْ أَهْلِ السَّيِّئَةِ وَالدُّعَاءِ وَالظُّلَمِ وَالْثُّغْيَانِ.

Artinya: "Ya Allah, lindungilah dia (bayi) dari kejelekan jin, manusia, ibu yang menyusui, serta segala kejelekan dan kejahatan.Jagalah dia dengan perlindungan dan tanggungan-Mu yang terpuji, dengan perhatian dan perlindungan-Mu yang bermanfaat.Melalui hal tersebut, kami mampu memenuhi hak-hak keTuhanan-Mu yang mulia.Kami berusaha untuk menerapkan akhlak mulia yang Engkau anugerahkan di antara kami dan makhluk-Mu, serta yang paling baik dari rezeki yang Engkau berikan.Ya Allah, jadikanlah kami dan mereka sebagai orang-orang yang memiliki ilmu, kebaikan, dan Al-Quran.Janganlah Engkau jadikan kami dan mereka sebagai orang-orang yang jahat, yang berbuat buruk, aniaya, dan kezaliman."

That is the prayer to recite when cutting a child's hair during Aqiqah, along with other prayers during the Aqiqah event. Every Muslim is required to perform aqiqah when they have a newborn baby. This is a form of gratitude for the blessings bestowed by Allah SWT. Although the Prophet Muhammad recommended performing aqiqah on the seventh day after birth, it depends on the financial ability of the parents.
