When meeting with the President of South Korea, Yoon Suk Yeo, during the Presidential Talks agenda in the ASEAN+3 series of events, the former Executive Director of the World Bank also stated that the K-Pop boom, especially in Indonesia, has lifted the market for South Korean products.

"I once told a story about how several major industries from Korea such as electronics, automotive, consumer goods, and services have been rapidly developing since the K-Pop culture started booming in Indonesia," said Sri Mulyani.

According to her, in the past two decades, the ASEAN trade share with Korea has increased by 82.8 percent from 2003 to 2022. In 2019, the number of subsidiary companies and financial company branches from Korea in ASEAN, including Indonesia, even reached 150 entities, an increase of 92 percent compared to the end of 2011.

"In 2011, Korea was also one of the top 10 countries that contributed 4 percent to foreign direct investment in ASEAN," added Sri Mulyani.

Through the ASEAN+3 meeting in Incheon, where Indonesia is the Chair, Sri Mulyani hopes that the ASEAN-Korea relationship will become closer.
