Woman's Story of Entering Islam Starting from Curiosity about Hijab, Initially Opposed, Now Family Also Converts

Dream - There are many ways a person receives guidance from Allah to enter Islam. Initially going against Allah's command, but now migrating to become a servant who strives to draw closer to Him.

That's what Evi Yuliana, or often called Evi Carly, experienced. Evi, who was previously a Catholic, firmly decided to become a convert.

Not alone, gradually her family began to be moved to learn about Islam and eventually became converts.

In the Youtube Rukun Indonesia video, Evi admitted that her decision to enter Islam started from curiosity about Muslim clothing.

All this time, Evi only knew that good clothing for women was open and did not cover the aura.

Regarding the use of hijab, Evi was initially confused why hair, as a woman's crown, had to be tightly covered.

Then the beautiful body shape also had to be hidden behind loose clothing for the sake of religion.

According to her, it would be a waste if she had beautiful hair but it was covered by a hijab, especially if the hair had a curly style.

Evi's curiosity peaked until she decided to find out for herself through Google why people wear hijab. She was amazed and imagined herself wearing a hijab.

In addition, her curiosity was also triggered by her husband's request. Evi said her husband felt uncomfortable when she became the center of attention because of her revealing clothes.

Her husband then suggested that Evi wear more modest clothing. “One of the reasons is also because of my husband's complaint,” said Evi.

Her husband's words kept spinning in her head, and Evi also wanted to know more about hijab.

“Yes, that's true, but how if it's covered? I'm Catholic, am I going to be a nun?,” said Evi. At this point, she had no desire to convert to another religion because she was also considered a devout Catholic," she said.

Mixed feelings every moment made her more confused, until she finally felt guided by Allah SWT. Not just once, Evi said she was guided multiple times through dreams.

“In my dream, I was in front of a mosque just watching a group of people going to pray, but I didn't join the prayer. I've had this dream several times,” said the woman from Jakarta.

Initially, she interpreted the dream as a sign that she was getting further away from God. Since then, she became more devout in her prayers.

But because of her curiosity and guidance, she decided to become a convert. At that time, Evi had not asked for her husband's permission.

After a month of becoming a convert, Evi informed her husband but not her parents yet. She admitted that she was not ready and afraid to be honest.

Until finally she went home to her parents' house. It was then that Evi was caught praying, triggering tension.

Initially, her mother was very angry and worried that her daughter would be in a polygamous marriage, as it is allowed in Islam.

Interestingly, after 8 months of being a convert, her parents and siblings also converted to Islam. She said that the decision was made without any coercion.

Even her father said he wanted to recite the Shahada in the mosque where Evi converted to Islam. Through a long process, finally, Evi's extended family also became converts.

“At first, I was shocked but also happy, alhamdulillah,” said Evi.

During her happiness, Evi suddenly received a message from her religious teacher about the rules of Islam. According to her teacher, she is not allowed to have marital relations after reciting the Shahada because their religious views are now different.

Because Evi has been serious in choosing Islam, she asked her husband. Her husband could only ask for time, while Evi did not want to be left hanging.

“The process takes about 4 months,” said Evi.

Evi asked for certainty from her husband, giving the choice between separation or joining. Her husband, who was already in love with her, finally agreed to follow Evi's footsteps and become a convert.
