Dream - Becoming a parent is one of the greatest blessings, but also full of challenges. Especially when children become difficult to manage. Parents have certainly experienced situations where little ones refuse to listen, are full of energy, and hard to direct. Although a parent's love for them is boundless, there are times when their patience is tested. In moments like this, besides trying various parenting methods, prayer becomes one of the ways that can provide peace and strength for parents in managing their children.
Many parents may feel confused and tired when dealing with a difficult child. However, it is important to remember that every child is a unique individual in their own way. In the midst of that chaos, praying is not just a request to God, but also a means to calm the heart and mind. Through prayer, we hope that God will provide patience, wisdom, and peace in raising our children.
1. Prayer for a Difficult-to-Manage Child
O Allah, guide them and improve their condition.
2. Prayer for a Difficult-to-Control Child
"رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ أَزْوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيَّاتِنَا قُرَّةَ أَعْيُنٍ وَاجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِينَ إِمَامًا" Translation: "Our Lord, grant us from our spouses and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us leaders of the righteous."
3. Prayer for a Difficult-to-Control Child
"رَبِّ اجْعَلْنِي مُقِيمَ الصَّلَاةِ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِي رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَاءِي" Translation: "O my Lord, make me one who establishes prayer, and also (make) my offspring one who establishes prayer. Our Lord, accept my supplication."
Parents' Steps to Deal with Difficult-to-Control Children
1. Understanding the Reasons behind Behavior Observe when and where the child exhibits challenging behavior. This can help identify the causes or triggers. Then, engage in a conversation with the child about their feelings. Sometimes, children misbehave because they feel unheard or misunderstood.
2. Establishing Clear and Consistent Rules Set clear household rules and ensure that the child understands these expectations. Then apply the rules consistently without exceptions. Consistency helps the child understand the boundaries and consequences of their behavior. 3. Using a Positive Approach Give praise or rewards when the child behaves well. This can motivate the child to continue behaving positively. Avoid physical punishment, as it can create fear or resentment. It is better to use a more constructive approach such as time-out or loss of privileges.
4. Help Children Manage Emotions Help children recognize and manage their emotions in a healthy way. For example, teach breathing techniques or other methods to calm themselves. Then, role model good behavior, as children learn from example. Show them how to manage emotions and resolve conflicts calmly and patiently. 5. Creating a Stable and Safe Environment Establishing a regular daily routine provides a sense of security for children. Make sure they have enough sleep, playtime, and regular study time.
6. Involving Children in Decision Making
Give children choices in certain things. This can make them feel more valued and responsible. Then, involve children in family discussions about rules and routines. This can make them feel more engaged and obedient to the rules they help create.
7. Seeking Professional Help If Needed
If a child's behavior is very concerning and does not improve with the above approach, consider seeking help from a counselor or child psychologist. Joining a parent support group can provide insight and additional support for parents regarding appropriate parenting. Managing a difficult child is a challenge, but with the right approach, parents can help the child develop more positive behavior and effectively overcome their problems.
