"Dream - A plane collision has occurred again at an airport in Japan, specifically at New Chitose Airport, Hokkaido Island. Fortunately, there were no casualties in the plane accident. A tow truck pulling a Korean Air plane with 276 passengers and 13 crew members slipped on a snow-covered runway, causing it to graze a Cathay Pacific plane around 17.35.
The incident caused the left wing of the aircraft to cut the right wing of Cathay Pacific, which according to the authorities was not carrying any passengers.
Korean Air, a leading full-service airline in South Korea, said it is currently discussing with local airport authorities on how to provide alternative flights for stranded passengers.
Alternative flights, which depart from Incheon International Airport on Tuesday, January 16th in the evening, are scheduled to take off from a Japanese airport on Wednesday at 01.00 and arrive in Incheon approximately three hours later.
Korean Air expresses its regret for causing inconvenience to passengers due to the incident that blamed the airport's ground handling in Japan.
The incident happened just two weeks after the collision between a Japan Airlines plane and a coast guard plane on the runway of Haneda Airport in Tokyo, which caused the passenger plane to catch fire. Passengers had to escape using the emergency slides before the larger plane was engulfed in flames. Five out of six crew members of the smaller plane died.
According to the Chitose City Fire Department, the Korean Air plane had just started moving away from its parking spot towards the runway for takeoff when its left wing made contact with the empty Cathay Pacific plane's vertical stabilizer parked next to it. Public television NHK aired footage of the damaged left wingtip of the Korean Air plane. "Cathay Flight 584 was parked after arriving from Hong Kong," NHK said. Aviation officials are currently investigating the cause of the accident.
