To enliven the house mentioned in the hadith above is not with negative things. All residents of the house must strive to enliven their dwelling with the recitation of the Holy Quran. If the house is never recited with the Holy Quran, the place of residence is like a grave. This is one way to realize the concept of "my home is my paradise".

The first practice to protect the house from the deceitful tricks of Satan is to make it a habit to greet with peace and engage in remembrance of Allah when entering the house. This is in accordance with the words of Allah SWT in Surah An-Nur verse 61: "...When you enter houses, greet yourselves with peace, a greeting from Allah, blessed and good..."

In order for the house to be protected from the deceit of the devil, it is best to recite verses from the Quran. The devil will be afraid to enter the house if the Quran is recited, especially Surah Al-Baqarah. They will even run away in a hurry. From Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: "Do not make your houses like graves. Surely, the devil will flee from a house in which Surah Al-Baqarah is recited." (Narrated by Muslim)

From Jabir bin Abdillah, the Prophet Muhammad SAW said: "When someone enters their house and remembers Allah upon entering, and when they are about to eat their food, the devil says, 'There is no place to stay for you and no dinner.' But if they enter the house without remembering Allah upon entering, the devil says, 'You have found a place to stay.' If they do not remember Allah while eating, the devil says, 'You have found a place to stay and dinner.' (HR. Muslim)"

From Al Bara'az, he narrated, "There was a man reading Surah Al Kahf while beside him there was a horse tied with two ropes. Then the man was covered by a cloud that approached and came closer. Until the horse ran away in shock. In the morning, he went to the Prophet Muhammad SAW and told him about the incident. Prophet Muhammad SAW said, "That is the as-sakinah that came down with the Quran." (Narrated by Bukhari) As-Sakinah is the term for a creature that is calm, full of love, and always accompanied by angels.

Apart from being filled with the recitation of the Quran, Satan also dares not enter a house where the family members diligently perform the sunnah prayers. There are many sunnah prayers that can be performed at home. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, "It is recommended for you to perform prayers in your homes, as the best prayer for a person is in their own home, except for the obligatory prayers." (Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim)
