The first general election was held on December 15, 1955 to elect the constituent assembly. The society appeared enthusiastic and orderly in queue to cast their votes at the polling station.

"In the 1955 election, the polling stations provided childcare services. Mothers can leave their children with the committee when they want to cast their votes."

The current election polling station is very different from the one in 1955. In the past, the polling station was made of rattan.

"In the present time, the military is not included in the list of voters, so they cannot cast their vote in the election. Unlike the 1955 election, the military was allowed to participate and cast their vote."

Not much different from today, the ballot paper in the 1955 election was also long and wide. The first election was followed by around 30 political parties and over a hundred independent candidates.

Interestingly, in the 1955 election, there were foreign people who participated in voting at the polling stations. This is quite unique considering that Indonesia had just recently gained independence from colonization.
