"Rahmad Mas’ud, the Mayor of Balikpapan, firmly stated that the people of Kalimantan fully support the relocation of the Capital City (IKN) from DKI Jakarta to East Kalimantan."
"In its assessment, the transfer of the capital is considered a more realistic option than the concept of building 40 cities with equality levels like Jakarta."
"Almost all residents of East Kalimantan, especially Balikpapan, fully support the relocation of the IKN. I, as the regional head, dare to say that building 40 cities equivalent to Jakarta is not logical. Even a regional head in 10 years may not be able to turn a village into a city," said Rahmad on Monday (25/12).
"Then, the alumni of Tri Dharma University Balikpapan talked about the risks that arise from uneven economic distribution. One of them is the desire to leave Indonesia, as has happened in Aceh and Papua."
The concepts of separatism often arise because the central government frequently exploits regional resources without considering the principles of justice.
"The people of East Kalimantan are not envious of the center. The proof is that nearly Rp600 trillion in the state budget comes from the land of East Kalimantan. However, none of our citizens have ever rebelled. What I mean is that equitable distribution is a way to realize an Advanced Indonesia by 2045 through development that is not only centered in Java and maintaining national unity."
"Rahmad Mas’ud, Mayor of Balikpapan,"
"In addition, Rahmad explained the sociological reasons behind the support of the people of Kalimantan for the relocation of the capital. One of the factors is the history that records that Kalimantan was once the center of the archipelago before the formation of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia."
The politician from the Golkar Party also expressed gratitude to the vice presidential candidate number 2, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who enthusiastically advocated for the aspirations of the people of Kalimantan during the vice presidential debate on Friday (22\/12).
He appreciates the way Gibran describes the development of the National Capital City (IKN) as more than just an effort to equalize the economy, but also as a symbol of Indonesia that is not only focused on Java Island.
Meanwhile, the presidential-vice presidential candidate pair number 1, Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar, expressed their disagreement with the relocation of the capital. In the vice presidential debate, Muhaimin even stated the opinion that rather than building a new capital, it would be better to develop the existing capital to achieve a level of equality.
"
"There will always be pros and cons to policies. But the benefits and support from the IKN are very significant. In Balikpapan, we have already seen the advantages of the IKN development. Hotels are fully booked, alhamdulillah culinary SMEs are continuously rising. Now we are anticipating an influx of people, as they will surely stop by in Balikpapan,"
