Dream - A sad fate befalls DR, a young man from Mantup District, Lamongan, East Java, who failed to get married after being deceived through the social media platform Tiktok. Under the guise of love, the perpetrator, who claimed to be ready to marry DR, also engaged in extortion.
Based on the police statement, the perpetrator, S (30), a resident of Semanding District, Tuban, East Java, extorted the victim causing a loss of tens of millions of rupiah. Currently, the perpetrator has been apprehended by the police. Public Relations Officer of Lamongan Police, Ipda Andi Nur Cahya, stated that the fraud case has been successfully uncovered by the IV Pidek Unit of the Criminal Investigation Division of Lamongan Police.

"Andi explained, this case began in October 2023 when the victim and the perpetrator met through their Tiktok accounts. Both of them started communicating intensively with the perpetrator using a pseudonym."
"Introduction continued with exchanging WhatsApp numbers. Then the victim and the suspect communicated more intensively and their relationship became closer," Andi revealed.
Feeling closer, the suspect is no longer ashamed to ask the victim for something. DR always complies with the suspect's requests by sending money to their account. "The victim admitted that the suspect often asks for money with the excuse of buying jewelry, clothes, and others. If totaled, it reached Rp 24,205,000. The money was sent via bank transfer to the account under the name Susanti," he said.
As the relationship progressed, the victim invited the perpetrator to meet in person. However, the invitation was always rejected with various excuses. Until April 2024, the victim bravely invited the perpetrator to get married. Unfortunately, the perpetrator did not come on the wedding day that had been prepared.
"\u201cThe suspect received a marriage proposal from the victim. The agreed date is May 1, 2024. However, on the day of the event, the perpetrator did not show up, claiming that he was not approved by his family. Meanwhile, the victim had already set up the stage, wedding decorations, and so on,\u201d he said."
The victim admitted to feeling ashamed in front of their family and neighbors until finally realizing that they had been deceived by the suspect. DR then reported it to the Lamongan Police Station. "The victim was visited by the suspect's family at their home one day after reporting to the police, precisely on Thursday (2/5/2024), around 20:00 WIB. The suspect's family intended to apologize to the victim for the suspect's behavior all this time," he explained.
The perpetrator was arrested along with several pieces of evidence including a cellphone, an ATM card, a fake ID card screenshot, and a printed conversation of WhatsApp messages between the perpetrator and the victim. For their actions, the perpetrator could face up to 4 years in prison.
"The case is currently being developed. Who knows if there are other victims. The perpetrator is charged under Article 378 of the Criminal Code or Article 372 of the Criminal Code, with a maximum prison sentence of 4 years," said Andi."
