Lainey and her team discovered that Mimas should have a hidden ocean in order to move according to their observations. "It is impossible to explain the rotation or orbit of Mimas with a solid core. There must be a global ocean present there," added Lainey.

The calculation they performed reveals the existence of an ocean on Mimas with a depth of up to 45 miles. This ocean is hidden beneath a layer of ice measuring 15 miles thick.

The ocean contributes to more than half of Mimas' volume and is believed to have appeared in the last 25 million years. The ocean's emergence is due to the strong tidal influence from Saturn, which causes deformation in Mimas' core. Although the ocean on Mimas is considered young in astronomical terms, the possibility of life existing there is not ignored by researchers.

"Moreover, the water in the hidden ocean is believed to have interacted with the rocks containing heat inside Mimas."

However, if this hidden ocean is only a few tens of millions of years old, the opportunity for life to thrive may still be limited. Lainey and her team have detailed their findings in a report titled 'A Recently Formed Ocean Inside Saturn's Moon Mimas', published in the journal Nature this year.

"On the other hand, Professor of planetary geosciences at the Open University, David Rothery, stated that although Mimas has hidden oceans, there are other locations that are more potential for finding life beyond Earth, such as Enceladus and Europa."

According to Rothery, continuous exploration and understanding of mysteries beyond space are important. In addition, this discovery provides new insights into the potential for life in the moons of our Solar System.

"If there is life inside Mimas, it is most likely hidden within a layer of ice that is more than 20 km thick. If the ocean has only emerged within the last 25 million years, then it may not have been enough time for life to start and evolve.
