Dream - Envy is one of the forbidden traits in Islam. Envy itself is a form of heart disease that can bring danger to the person. Even the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) mentioned that envy can consume goodness. Here is his saying: "Envy consumes goodness just as fire consumes firewood." (HR. Abu Dawud) However, did you know, friends of Dream, that there is a type of envy that is allowed in Islam?

There are eight dangers associated with the nature of envy that can hinder success. First, envy can affect the quality of a person's social relationships. When envy takes control, a person tends to feel fearful and doubtful of others' success. As a result, personal and professional relationships can become tense and even end. Second, the nature of envy can also make a person feel dissatisfied with their own achievements.

Thirdly, envy tends to lead to unhealthy social comparisons. One might constantly compare themselves to more successful individuals, which negatively affects self-esteem and self-confidence. Fourthly, envy can also drive someone to take unethical or immoral actions in order to achieve success."

The urge to damage or harm someone else's reputation sometimes arises from deep-seated envy. Fifth, envy can lead to sustained negative feelings. A mind filled with envy hinders a person's ability to focus, innovate, and grow positively. Sixth, the nature of envy can also hinder tolerance towards mistakes and failures.

When someone is too focused on the success of others, it is difficult for them to accept failure or personal mistakes as part of the learning and growing process. Jealousy can also cause strong emotional stress and even mental health problems. Diseases such as depression and anxiety are often associated with constant feelings of jealousy.

Finally, the nature of jealousy inhibits a person's ability to rejoice and feel happy for the success of others. When someone is constantly trapped in jealousy, they lose the potential to celebrate and support the success of others. By understanding these eight dangers, we can emphasize the importance of avoiding jealousy in order to achieve true success.

According to Imam Al Ghazali, there are two permissible qualities of envy in Islam. This is as explained in the saying of the Prophet Muhammad: "Envy (hasad) is not allowed, except for two things. First, someone whom Allah has blessed with the ability to recite the Quran and they continue to recite it day and night. Second, someone whom Allah has blessed with a lot of wealth and they continue to spend it day and night." (HR. Bukhari) Through the above hadith, it can be understood that envy, according to scholars, is divided into two types as follows:

Genuine envy is the envy that hopes for the loss of pleasure from someone who is currently experiencing it. According to the consensus of scholars, this kind of envy is considered forbidden.

"Iri majazi is envy that expects blessings. For example, the blessings given to others without expecting the loss of blessings from those others."
