Dream - Minister of Religious Affairs (Menag), Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, urges Muslims to maintain tolerance in dealing with the potential differences of 1 Ramadan 1445 H/2024. According to him, there is a potential difference in determining the beginning of Ramadan this year. This is stated in the circular of Menag number 1 of 2024 regarding the Guidelines for the Implementation of Ramadan Worship and Eid al-Fitr 1445 H/2024 M, signed on February 26, 2024.

"Not only that, Yaqut also requested that the takbiran of Eid al-Fitr be conducted in mosques, musallas, and other places, with the condition of following the Circular Letter of the Minister of Religion Number 05 of 2022 regarding Guidelines for the Use of Sound Systems in Mosques and Musallas. He also stated that the Eid al-Fitr prayer on the 1st of Syawal 1445 H/2024 can be held in mosques, musallas, and fields. Yaqut also allows takbir keliling (reciting takbir while moving around) as long as it follows the regulations of the local government and security forces."

There is a possibility of differences in determining the beginning of Ramadan 1445 H/2024 in Indonesia. BMKG has predicted the height of the crescent moon to determine the start of Ramadan 2024."

In its study, BMKG revealed that the height of the crescent moon in Indonesia at sunset on March 10 ranged from 0.33 degrees in Jayapura, Papua, to 0.87 degrees in Tua Pejat, West Sumatra. Meanwhile, the height of the crescent moon in Indonesia at sunset on March 11 ranged from 10.75 degrees in Merauke, Papua, to 13.62 degrees in Sabang, Aceh.

"In the meantime, Muhammadiyah has determined the beginning of Ramadan 2024 on Monday, March 11, based on the real sighting of the crescent moon which is followed by the Majelis Tarjih and Tajdid. However, the Ministry of Religious Affairs will hold a confirmation session to determine the start of fasting on March 10."
