Prayer After Yasin and Tahlil, Religious Activities that Have Become a Tradition of Indonesian Muslims.
Tahlilan is a tradition that has cultural and religious roots.
Tahlilan is a tradition that has cultural and religious roots.
Dream - Tahlilan is a religious activity that is a tradition for most Muslims in Indonesia. The term tahlilan is taken from the Arabic word 'tahlil' which means glorifying or praising Allah SWT. In general, tahlilan refers to an event of reciting dhikr, prayers, and reading Surah Yasin or other verses from the Quran to remember and seek mercy from Allah, as well as to pray for the deceased.
The reading of tahlil is usually accompanied by reading Surah Yasin after or before. Thus, this religious activity is more commonly known as yasin and tahlil. After the completion of the sequence of yasin and tahlil, it is usually followed by reciting prayers. The prayer after yasin and tahlil is important to know if someone becomes the imam of tahlil. Not only that, the prayer of yasin and tahlil also needs to be practiced when conducting tahlilan alone.
It turns out that tahlil is the most beloved reading of Prophet Muhammad SAW. This is according to the hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah as follows: "The best words that I and the previous prophets have said are the words laailaaha illallah wahdah la syarikalah (there is no god but Allah, the One and Only, without partners)."
Tahlilan is usually conducted after someone's death as a form of respect and honor for the deceased.
The essence of tahlilan is to pray for Allah to grant mercy and forgiveness to the deceased, to seek His mercy and love, and to seek His protection.
The purpose of tahlilan is also as a reminder for Muslims about the afterlife and the importance of preparing themselves to face it.
Tahlilan is often done by reading Surah Yasin, verses from the Quran, and a collection of special prayers for the deceased, as well as a series of dhikr or wirid. Tahlilan events can be held at funeral homes, mosques, or other locations. Sometimes tahlilan is also held as part of a series of events for seven or forty days after the death of a Muslim.
The approach to tahlilan can vary among schools and sects within Islam. Some scholars consider tahlilan as a bid'ah practice (a new practice that has no example from the Prophet Muhammad or his companions), while others allow it with certain specific grounds.
If someone chooses to perform tahlilan, it is important to intend this practice solely for Allah, with the purpose of remembering Allah and seeking mercy for the deceased person.
