Dream - Reaching the highest career level in the academic field as a professor is certainly a dream for all academics. Moreover, the title of professor can be achieved at a relatively young age. It is not an easy task, but it can be accomplished. Like Prof. Dr. Pramaditya Wicaksono, S.Si., M.Sc., who has successfully made his name in the history of Gadjah Mada University (UGM) as the youngest professor at the age of 35 years and 11 months.
Prama, his nickname, has been appointed as a Professor in the field of Coastal Biodiversity Remote Sensing at the Faculty of Geography, Gadjah Mada University, effective from June 1, 2023.
"He broke the previous record achieved by Prof Apt Agung Endro Nugroho, MSi, PhD. Prof Agung achieved the position of professor at the age of 36 years and 9 months."
Prama began his education in the Cartography and Remote Sensing Program at the Faculty of Geography UGM in 2004. He successfully graduated in 2008 with a total study period of 3 years and 11 months. After completing his undergraduate studies, he immediately continued his Master's degree in Geography at UGM with a focus on Coastal Planning and Watershed Management (MPPDAS) in 2008. His graduate studies were supported by a Dikti Excellence Scholarship.
Prama then received a doctoral scholarship offer from the CNRD (Centers for Natural Resources and Development) program through funding from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
He did not miss the opportunity by enrolling in the Joint Doctoral Program in Remote Sensing Geography at Cologne University of Applied Sciences, Germany. "So I applied to be a lecturer at the Faculty of Geography while pursuing my PhD," he said on UGM's website, quoted on Tuesday, February 13, 2024.
Prama said, he decided to become a lecturer because of his passion for exploration. He also enjoys storytelling and sharing experiences, as well as meeting new people. "Yes, because I love to explore, I thought if I'm not a researcher, then I'll be a lecturer. But after thinking about it, if I become a researcher, there will definitely be times when I get bored of researching continuously. Meanwhile, as a lecturer, I can do the three pillars, which are researching, conducting education, and serving the community. It's much more colorful," he explained.
From a lecturer, Prama became a professor without first occupying the position of head lecturer because he has fulfilled the requirement of the number of credit points for lecturers to become a professor. The man, born in Semarang on July 6, 1987, admitted to having a specific target to achieve the position of professor at a young age. However, he did not expect to achieve it at his current age.

According to him, the professor position he achieved is the result of his productivity in research and scientific publications. Every year, Prama has an average of 5 successful scientific publications. Until now, he has recorded 55 publications in reputable national and international scientific journals that he has made. Prama also produced 76 writings published in proceedings, book chapters, bulletins, and mass media.

For Prama, achieving the position of professor is not the end of his academic career journey. According to him, holding the title of professor is the beginning of further advancing knowledge. "This professorship becomes a locomotive for developing knowledge in the institution. Therefore, the opportunity for knowledge development becomes greater, so that it can be even faster in disseminating literacy to society," he said.
