The Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) has granted a reduction in prison sentences to 15,922 inmates as part of the celebration of Christmas Day 2023.

The granting of this remission is considered a form of appreciation for inmates who are deemed to have achieved self-understanding, reflected in their behavior and attitudes in accordance with applicable religious and social norms. This principle is in accordance with the provisions outlined in the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 22 of 2022 concerning Corrections and Government Regulation Number 32 of 1999 regarding the Conditions and Procedures for the Implementation of the Rights of Inmates.
