Reasons Why the Police Can Arrest Pegi Perong, Suspect of Vina Cirebon Case, After 8 Years in Hiding

"After attracting public attention, the police quickly moved to hunt down the suspects in the murders of Eki and Vina Cirebon. As a result, the West Java Regional Police arrested Pegi Setiawan alias Perong, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the killings."

Surawan said that after the perpetrator of the murder case of Vina and Rizki in Cirebon in 2016 was found, Pegi left his hometown to the Katapang area, Bandung Regency. There, Pegi lived in a rented house with his biological father and stepmother. However, during his time there, he claimed to be a nephew.

The arrest of Pegi alias Perong, who was recently apprehended after 8 years of the Eki and Vina murder case, has become a question mark for the community. Director of General Crime Directorate of West Java Regional Police, Commissioner Pol Surawan, explained the reasons why the process of Pegi's arrest took years. Besides changing identities, it was reported that other perpetrators in the Vina and Rizki murder case refused to provide information.

"This is confirmed by the statement of the boarding house (rental) owner, which we have requested. The name has been changed, no longer PS but using the name Robi," explained Surawan at the West Java Regional Police Headquarters, Sunday, May 26, 2024, quoted from Merdeka.com."

"Escape from Hometown"

Since the murder case is being investigated by the police, Surawan revealed that Pegi no longer stays in his hometown. According to the testimony of local environmental guards, Pegi always covers his face with a mask when returning to his hometown to avoid being recognized.

"The information from the neighborhood head or RT (residential unit) where PS resides also states that when PS returns home, he often wears a mask to deceive the surroundings. Yesterday, he went from Cirebon to Bandung, around the 15th, also wearing a mask," added Surawan.

"The Other Perpetrators Dare Not Express"

Surawan also revealed that other convicted perpetrators are unwilling to provide information about Pegi. The police suspect there is fear because it is related to their activities or membership in the motorcycle gang. "Some say they are scared and so on. So, their fear alone prevents them from explaining who this PS person is, making it difficult for us to track," Surawan added.

"No other perpetrators dare to explain that PS is this person. Even though they live in the same neighborhood and even have school or playmates. Our difficulty so far has been like that, because there are no witnesses who dare to explain it yet."
