Duterte resigned from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s Cabinet after a tense year due to escalating political tensions between their families.
The Presidential Communications Office said that, in addition to resigning as Minister of Education, Duterte also resigned from his position as deputy chairman of the anti-communist task force. Duterte reportedly visited Malacanang, the office and residence of the President of the Philippines, at 14:21 local time to submit his resignation letter as a cabinet member.
"He refused to give his reasons. He will continue to serve as Vice President," according to the announcement from the Presidential Communication Office, as quoted from Phil Star."
"Serving Since 2022"
He stated that President Marcos Jr has accepted Sara Duterte's resignation from her position in the cabinet. Marcos Jr appointed Sara Duterte as the Secretary of the Department of Education after both of them started serving as President and Vice President of the Philippines on June 30, 2022.
Both advanced and won convincingly under the UniTeam coalition in the 2022 elections. In the past few weeks, Sara Duterte has often been absent from events attended by President Marcos Jr and did not participate in the departure of the Philippine President during state visits to Singapore and Brunei.
"He also did not attend various law signing ceremonies at Malacanang."
