Dream - Many meanings and wisdom are contained in Surah An-Nisa verse 59. A verse that contains a clear command to obey Allah and His Messenger. Arabic Reading: يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا أَطِيعُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُوا الرَّسُولَ وَأُولِي الْأَمْرِ مِنْكُمْ ۖ فَإِنْ تَنَازَعْتُمْ فِي شَيْءٍ فَرُدُّوهُ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَالرَّسُولِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ خَيْرٌ وَأَحْسَنُ تَأْوِيلًا Latin Reading: Yaa ayyuhal ladziina aamanuu athii’ullaha wa athi’ur-rasula wa uulil amri minkum. Fa in tanaza’tum fii syai’in farudduuhu ilallahi war-rosuuli in-kuntum tu’minuuna billahi walyaumil aakhir. Dzaalika khairun wa ahsanu ta’wiilaa. English Translation: O you who have believed, obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you. And if you disagree over anything, refer it to Allah and the Messenger, if you should believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is the best [way] and best in result.

The content of Surah An-Nisa verse 59 is as follows: Every Muslim is obligated to be obedient and loyal to Allah SWT, the Prophet, and the Ulil Amri (leaders). The obedience to the Ulil Amri in this verse is absolute as long as they do not command what is prohibited by Allah SWT. The best way to resolve disputes in any matter is to refer back to Allah and His Messenger.

Ibnu Katsir in his interpretation mentioned the words of Ibnu Abbas, that the reason for the revelation of Surah An-Nisa verse 59 is related to Abdullah bin Hudzafah bin Qais, when he was sent by the Prophet Muhammad SAW to lead a special force. Abdullah commanded his troops to gather firewood and burn it. When the fire was lit, he ordered his troops to enter the fire.

Then one of the soldiers answered, "Truly, the way out of this fire is only through the Prophet. Do not be hasty before meeting the Prophet. If the Prophet commands you to enter the fire, then enter it." Then they approached the Prophet and told him about it. The Prophet forbade them from entering the fire and emphasized that obedience should only be in goodness. Ibn Hajar Al Asqalani explained that Surah An-Nisa verse 59 was revealed in relation to this, explaining that if there is a difference and a problem, it should be referred back to the Quran and Hadith.

If the Prophet Muhammad commands you to enter the fire, then enter it." They then approached the Prophet Muhammad and told him about it. The Prophet Muhammad prohibited them from entering the fire and emphasized that obedience is only in goodness.

The first interpretation of Surah An-Nisa verse 59 is absolute obedience to Allah SWT and the Prophet Muhammad PBUH. "O you who believe, obey Allah and obey the Messenger." Those who have faith in their hearts are commanded to obey Allah and the Prophet Muhammad PBUH. This obedience must be absolute and cannot be negotiated. Those who obey the Prophet are essentially obeying Allah. This is because there is no command of the Prophet that contradicts the command of Allah.

According to Ibnu Abbas, Mujahid, Atha', Hasan Al Basri, and Abdul Aliyah, ulil amri are the scholars. According to Ibnu Katsir, ulil amri refers to both the government and the scholars. Meanwhile, according to Syaikh Wahbah Az Zuhaili in Tafsir Munir, ulil amri are the leaders and the scholars. Obedience to ulil amri must be framed with obedience to Allah and the Prophet. It is not permissible to engage in disobedience and evil deeds. "Verily, obedience is only in matters of goodness." (Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim).
