According to the story, there is a pocong figure that often appears in the house, which has been standing since 1935. Actually, the residents of the haunted house in Yogyakarta are not only pocong Sumi. There are other ghosts like kuntilanak, genderuwo, a snake with a magical stone on its head, and also noni Belanda. However, the most famous and considered as the ruler of the haunted house in Yogyakarta is pocong Sumi.

Supposedly, the old house belongs to a pair of batik entrepreneurs that was inherited by their child named Sumini. Sumini's husband is also a batik entrepreneur. They lived happily until one time when three robbers invaded their house.

At that time, the husband was not at home because he had business matters out of town. The robbers looted the belongings in the batik entrepreneur's house. Sumini was even raped and then strangled to death.

Trusted Not Evil Pocong Ghost

After that tragic event, Sumini's husband left the house empty and uninhabited until now. This story also made people believe that the building is inhabited by the curious spirit of Sumini. She became the guardian ghost of the haunted house in Yogyakarta. Nevertheless, people also believe that Sumi's pocong does not have any malicious intentions. She only disturbs those who have bad intentions when entering the haunted house in Yogyakarta.

Apart from the story of the robber, there is another story that mentions that the pocong Sumi is actually not the original inhabitant of the haunted house. Before being owned by Sumini and her husband, the house was previously inhabited by a pair of diamond traders from the Netherlands.

Because of a misunderstanding, the husband killed his own wife in a cruel way. The husband ended the life of his wife in their bedroom, who was pregnant at that time.

Until now, the bedroom where the tragic incident took place has been closed. No one is allowed to enter and see the secret room.
