"Dream - Planning a vacation to Singapore to spend the end of the year? Don't bring vapes or electronic cigarettes in any other form. If you do bring them, be prepared to surrender them at the Red Channel. "
The Red Channel itself is for tourists entering a country and bringing goods with restrictions and imported goods subject to customs duties.
"This is because the authorities in Singapore have implemented strict policies regarding the prohibition of vape usage. Inspections will be conducted at the entry points to Singapore, whether through air, land, or sea, in the coming months, and will begin at Changi Airport."
“Arriving passengers may have their e-vaporisers and components checked in the arrival hall, and those found carrying e-vaporisers or their components will be fined,” wrote a statement from the Ministry of Health (MOH) and Health Sciences Authority (HSA) a few days ago.
"Passengers carrying e-vaporizers must pass through the Red Channel. “Travelers who declare and submit these items at the Red Channel will avoid penalties,” said the Ministry of Health and HSA."
The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) will continue to conduct security checks to detect and prevent smuggling attempts. Vaping is illegal in Singapore and offenders can be fined up to S$2,000 (US$1,490) or about Rp23 million. Those who import, distribute, or sell such products face harsher penalties, including the possibility of imprisonment. The number of people caught using and possessing vapes continues to rise, and even some schoolchildren are engaging in this habit.
"Some users obtain their supplies online from messaging apps like Telegram, or when they go abroad.
“Therefore, we are taking steps to protect our population and prevent vaping from spreading in our community,” said the Ministry of Health and HSA."
"Besides at the border checkpoints, inspections will be intensified in places such as business district areas, shopping centers, parks, smoking areas, as well as public entertainment venues like bars and clubs. Authorities describe these places as “public hotspots,” and add that violators will be fined immediately."
The Ministry of Health and HSA noted that since December 1, law enforcement officers from the National Environmental Agency have been authorized to take action against individuals who use or possess vapes. They added that they are also collaborating with the Ministry of Communication and Information and the Infocom Media Development Authority to enhance the detection and removal of online vape sales and advertisements.
"HSA said that it has been monitoring the illegal sale of electronic vaporizing devices through social media and messaging platforms to limit online access to these items. Schools and higher education institutions will strengthen efforts for detection and law enforcement against vaping. Source: SCMP"
