A Series of Passenger Complaints when Traveling by Airplane
"There are always unforgettable stories of passengers on the plane."
"There are always unforgettable stories of passengers on the plane."
Dream - Travelers hope that air travel can be used as a place to rest for a moment before reaching their destination for vacation, work, or returning to their hometown. Starting from enjoying the entertainment provided by the airline, savoring delicious culinary delights, to sleeping soundly.
"But it is not uncommon for that hope to be shattered when sitting next to or beside an annoying passenger, so we cannot enjoy the air journey peacefully. For example, being too loud or not cleaning the toilet after using it."
Agoda, a digital travel platform, apparently has explored the unpleasant side of air travel. Agoda's Travel Bugbears Survey 2023 documented various disruptions in flights, ranging from the smoothest flights to frequently occurring obstacles.
The survey, which covers 10 countries across Asia, found that impolite violations of personal space are the most disliked thing among passengers.
According to Liyana Jamil, Vice President of Global Partner Services, Agoda in a written statement, Tuesday, September 5, 2023.
Tourists from South Korea, Thailand, and Taiwan are the most disturbed by this, whether it's fighting over handrails, the sound when others move their bodies, or the unpleasant odor from uncovered feet.
Flight delays rank high, occupying the second position in the list of passenger complaints throughout the Asia Pacific. The patience of Indonesian travelers reaches a critical point when it comes to delays as they consider it a major disruption. However, this sentiment is also shared by travelers from Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam.
Being ranked third as the most annoying disturbance during flights in the entire region, noisy passengers, such as seatmates who talk too much, couples who discuss personal issues in public, or groups who listen to music or play games throughout the flight. Australians and Malaysians are the least sensitive to noise, while Taiwanese and South Korean tourists prefer a more peaceful flying experience.
Japanese people also value peace and tranquility, as well as being the only country that expresses intolerance towards passengers who disturb and behave rudely towards cabin crew, as their main complaint.
"Although flying is a pleasant experience, sometimes there are a few minor complaints. There are more than 130,000 flight routes that can be booked on Agoda, and I hope this light survey finding can create awareness, improve consideration, and make the experience on one of these routes more enjoyable," explained Liyana."
For Indonesian tourists, flight delays are the main thing that is frustrating, with nearly a quarter of respondents rating it as the most disturbing thing followed by impolite passengers and noisy tourists.
