Siswi SMK PGRI 1 Kudus Creates Cool Special Effect Makeup

Dream - Makeup is not only used to make someone's appearance more beautiful. It can also make someone's face look different and unique by adopting a specific character concept or special effect as commonly used in films for specific characters.

Those who have the skill to create special effect makeup must have excellent skills. One of them is Jeannie Gabriel Samvero, a student of SMK PGRI 1 Kudus under the Djarum Foundation. She showcased her ability to apply special effect burn makeup at the Vokasiland 2022 event at Grand City Surabaya on Friday, July 29, 2022.

"Until now, we know that makeup is intended to make someone's face or appearance more beautiful or attractive. However, makeup is not only limited to that, but it can also provide a new perspective, especially related to industry needs," said Jeannie.

On that occasion, the student who is in the 11th grade of the Skin and Hair Beauty department also became a tutor to teach how to create special effect makeup and techniques.

"The theme of this demo is burn effects with easy application so that the average participants who do not have special effect makeup skills can still produce good works," she said.

Nadhilah Putri, a student of SMK 12 Surabaya, was interested in participating in special effect makeup as it was her first experience that she found exciting and challenging. The 12th-grade student majoring in Dance was very enthusiastic and intended to delve deeper into the world of special effect makeup.

"Participating in this demo made me learn how to create burn effects step by step. It turns out to be very interesting, and I will further develop this skill. Maybe I will practice special effect makeup in my final project," said Nadhilah.

Meanwhile, Ima, one of the participants in this event, stated that the special effect makeup demo has opened her eyes to the ins and outs of the world of makeup artistry. In the past, makeup artistry has always been associated with efforts to make someone look more beautiful.

"Until now, I only knew that makeup was for events like weddings or others. Through this makeup demo, I learned that accident wounds or wounds commonly seen in films are the result of special effect makeup. I think it's cool," said Ima.

On the same occasion, Galuh Paskamagma, the Program Officer of Bakti Pendidikan Djarum Foundation, explained that Jeannie's makeup demo at the Vokasiland 2022 event is the result of Merdeka Belajar (Freedom to Learn).

"Jeannie's skills are one of the indicators of the success of Merdeka Belajar, which has been implemented in SMK PGRI 1 Kudus. With Merdeka Belajar, students are encouraged to be more creative by learning according to their interests. With Merdeka Belajar, SMK PGRI 1 Kudus can produce vocational masterpieces needed by the industry," said Galuh.

This event shows that SMK students have skills that are not inferior to those of professional makeup artists.

"This event is an opportunity for students to demonstrate their hard skills in special effect makeup and also hone their soft skills, especially in creativity and communication," she said.

She also explained that the makeup demo is the right step to introduce the trend of special effect makeup, which is currently developing in Indonesia, and the increasing demand in the film and theater industry.

Vokasiland 2022, which took place from July 28-31, 2022, is a series of exhibitions showcasing innovative products and technologies from vocational education units throughout Indonesia, initiated by the Directorate General of Vocational Education, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia. Vokasiland is an event to celebrate National Technology Awakening Day (Hakteknas) 2022, which falls on August 10 every year. (mut)
