Among them are the safety and security of society; the level of ongoing domestic and international conflicts; and the level of militarization.

The report shows that 65 countries have recorded progress and 97 countries have shown regression, more than any year since the ranking began in 2008.

This report also notes, overall, last year there were 162,000 deaths due to conflict, which is the second highest death toll in three decades. The wars in Ukraine and Gaza are responsible for nearly 75 percent of these deaths.
