"Dream - Goldin Finance 117 alias China 117 Tower, a 597-meter tall building on the outskirts of Tianjin, China, has become the tallest abandoned building in the world. The building is known as the tallest unfinished and uninhabited building in the world."
According to Oddity Central, this building was originally designed to be a center for luxury real estate projects in Tianjin. Construction began in 2008, but was halted just two years later due to the impact of the recession.
The work on the project was continued in 2011, with an estimated completion date between 2018 and 2019. However, in September 2015, construction was once again suspended and has not resumed since then.
"When the work on Goldin Finance 117 was suspended, the impressive skyscraper became the fifth tallest building in the world. Goldin Finance 117 was supposed to have 128 floors above ground, 117 of which were planned as hotel and commercial areas, and 11 floors were dedicated to mechanical and operational services, as well as four basement floors."
"Unlike most other buildings of comparable size, this building is designed to be habitable up to its highest point. Interestingly, when compared to the highest habitable floor, the China 117 Tower will rank second after the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. Unfortunately, the entire skyscraper is completely unoccupied."
Some people say that the failure of the building project was due to the developer, Goldin Group, being a new player in the Chinese market and because they did not receive support from the Chinese government, so they had to finance the entire construction project themselves.
"After the Chinese stock market bubble burst, Goldin lacked reserves to keep its stock price afloat, and its leaders could only stand by as the price plummeted."
"Some say that developing luxury projects in second-class areas like Tianjin is a bad idea because it does not attract the interest of the elite who are supposed to be impressed."
