Dream - Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto stated that the mandatory halal certification for food and beverages for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), which was originally targeted for October 2024, has been postponed to 2026.
The following 'Bahasa' text translated to 'English' while preserving any html tags: "Airlangga's speech was quoted from Liputan6.com, Thursday, May 16, 2024."
Airlangga stated that the obligation of halal certification in 2026 is also determined for traditional medicine, herbal medicine, and others, chemical cosmetics, accessories, consumables, household goods, and various health equipment.
The following is the translation of the given 'Bahasa' text to 'English' while preserving any HTML tags: "Different provisions apply to medium and large-scale MSME entrepreneurs. The obligation for halal certification must still be implemented starting from October 2024."
One of the considerations for postponing the obligation of halal certification for micro and small businesses is because the achievement of the annual halal certification target only reaches more than 4 million, out of the targeted 10 million halal certifications.
As for products from other countries, the obligation of halal certification will be applied after the country signs the Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA).
he said.
"Meanwhile, for countries that have not signed the MRA, the provisions have not been enforced. Airlangga Hartarto stated that the obligation of halal certification is only intended for businesses that already have an NIB or Business Identification Number. Therefore, the government encourages street vendors to obtain an NIB as a requirement for halal certification."
he said.
