"Dream - KCIC has obtained data on the perpetrator of the theft of cushions from the armrests of Premium Economy class train seats in the Whoosh high-speed train network. The perpetrator's data was traced through 44 CCTV cameras available on each train set."
"Based on the CCTV footage, there are individuals who intentionally removed the pillow from the seatback, and there are also individuals who are suspected of deliberately taking the pillow."
"KCIC immediately followed up by conducting CCTV inspections and tracing passenger data. Currently, passenger data has been obtained and will be followed up in accordance with applicable procedures,"
said General Manager Corporate Secretary KCIC Eva Chairunisa in her statement, quoted on Monday, July 29, 2024.
Eva noted that as of July 2024, there have been 6 incidents of missing pillows from the Whoosh train seats. “During the last incident in July 2024, when Whoosh number G1247 on the Halim – Tegalluar route departed on July 11, 2024, and stopped at the final station, the service staff on the train conducted a cleanliness check and looked for items left behind. It was found that 1 Premium Economy seat in car number 6 was not equipped with a head pillow,” explained Eva.
"Eva said that the pillow facilities provided at each Whoosh train seat are intended to enhance passenger comfort during the journey. However, the actions of some irresponsible passengers who open and remove the pillow facilities from the train seats have a number of negative impacts that need to be a shared concern."
The action of removing or taking the cushion from the train seat results in damage to the facilities and reduces the comfort of passengers, which can prevent other passengers from enjoying this facility.
"If the cushion on the train seat is missing, then KCIC needs to procure and replace the missing cushion, resulting in additional operational costs for KCIC, which could have been used for improving other services."
“ This pillow is also designed with special specifications that have high technology. The pillow and passenger seats are made of fire-resistant materials so that in an emergency, various potential dangers can be minimized. Although small, this incident can be quite detrimental to the company and other passengers,”
The translation of "tegas Eva." to English is "firm Eva."
"KCIC urges all passengers to follow the rules and not to damage public facilities, such as removing the pillows from the train seat backs. All acts of vandalism on the Whoosh train facilities will certainly be monitored through CCTV. In total, there are 1,390 CCTV cameras installed in good condition and monitored specifically."
