Dream - A man in Kenya was recently arrested after it was revealed that he had been impersonating a lawyer. However, what is interesting is that he had won 26 different cases during his disguise, despite not having formal training in the field of law.
According to Oddity Central, the man is Brian Mwenda Njagi who is dubbed as the 'real-life Mike Ross', referring to the popular character from the TV series 'Suits', a smart young man who manages to work at a prestigious law firm and represent clients despite not having a formal education in law.
Njagi is known to have successfully represented his clients in front of the Court of Appeal judges and High Court judges in 26 different cases, and won each of these cases. Njagi successfully portrayed himself as a quality lawyer and no judge he has faced has ever suspected that he is not a lawyer.
His disguise was revealed after the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) received a complaint from a lawyer named Brian Mwenda Ntwiga, stating that he was unable to access his account.
Ntwiga has not applied for a practice certificate. However, in September of this year, when trying to access their account to activate their profile, Ntwiga realized that they had incorrect login details. Ntwiga contacted the Law Society of Kenya, and after an internal investigation, it was concluded that someone else had tampered with the lawyer's account.
The person who has tampered with his account is Brian Mwenda Njagi, who also has the same name at the front. After being given access to the system, Njagi then changed his profile picture and submitted an application to obtain a legal practice certificate.
word LSK in a press release.
After gathering enough evidence, the Quick Action Team from the Nairobi Branch of the Kenya Legal Society arrested Brian Mwenda Njagi on charges of impersonating a lawyer.
Njagi himself has not yet been brought before a judge, but his story has impressed several people to the point that a Kenyan tycoon offered to pay his bail and stated that he was impressed with his track record in court even though he had never set foot in court.
